I’m trying to find out what defines access to work in England for STEM people. I have not felt any personal engagement with this project, though sometimes I do feel opposed to some aspects. For most of the time I thought this was because I am not a STEM person. But I am increasingly becoming aware that this is not at all relateable to me as my experience of work in England has needed me to keep trying with the penalties of gender and race. Both of these are of zero relevance to a majority of my participants.
Can you imagine, a brown woman talking to people in a fundamental science about employment? What a joke.
I suppose the only thing going for me is social class, some semblance of which I share. And even that isn’t a shared recognition, and contextually differently lived.
P.S: My participants are amazing people, just living in an unequal world with little recognition of disparities (save 2).
